The worldwide use of solid-state disks (SSDs) is booming. Information [1] by market researcher IHS iSuppli, approximately 11.5 million SSDs were shipped in the first quarter of 2013 – almost twice as many as a year ago. The compact flash alternative to traditional hard disk is, according to the analysts at the moment, especially in the high demand in tablets and ultra-compact notebooks, ultrabooks are used respectively. More than half – about 5.9 million SSDs – incorporated into this market segment. 1.6 million SSDs were administered solely by the tablet PC manufacturers.

While the SSD sales were down in almost all sales channels, the business performed significantly differentiated in hard disk drives (HDDs). Thus, the market researcher IHS identified the greatest growth in the enterprise segment. Due to the sharp decline in sales [2] on notebooks and PCs in the consumer environment, the sale of HDDs declined as expected in these areas. After 105 300 000 plates in the first quarter of 2012, only 93.3 million HDDs were sold in the PC market in the first three months of this year. The hard drive market as a whole was, according to IHS by 7 percent to 135.7 million units
