Since Apple announced its new iPhone was equipped with a biometric sensor, a debate stirred technophiles. While Apple brand says TouchID is ultra-secure, experts doubt its reliability. So much so that they did not wait for the release of the smartphone to launch a competition inviting hackers to circumvent the technology and requesting video evidence to support it.

The German Chaos Computer Club (CCC), one of the main organizations of hackers in Europe are poised to meet the challenge. The group has published on its website a text and a video explaining how to override the TouchID technology. “A picture of the fingerprint of the user enough to create a fake finger,” they summarize. In fact, a thin transparent layer which is printed on the fingerprint is used in rebuttal. Apple would actually just improved sensor resolution compared to previous technologies. The hackers then did the same with their photography and printing.
