Mattighofen (Austria), 9 October 2013 – This bike instills fear even when standing still. “Aggressive” is the name given to its design is an understatement. How to jump the Super Duke R crouching, ready to bite. Angular and muscular, broad chest arched. The evil eye from the fixture should be taken as a warning before their impetuous force outbreaks.

The KTM’s tactics worked: the Austrian brand has long had a radical Nakedbike announced and unveiled the prototype of a year ago at the EICMA. “The Beast,” as they called themselves, Donnerhall produced – not only because of the open exhaust system. Since then, the PR department in Mattighofen fed the customers and the press piecemeal with videos and pictures. Now the photos and data for the 1290 Super Duke R series have been published by the factory finally. In fact, their designer Gerald Kiska was not exaggerating when he told a skeptical journalists after the presentation of the prototype that the series would look the same, but with the correct lighting system and a legal exhaust.

Pulverized competition

Galt already the predecessor 990 Super Duke as a serious sport bike, they wanted the current time in Mattighofen Naked bike competition pulverize. It took the best 75 degree V2 of the Superbike RC8 R as the base and drilled him on to 1301 cubic centimeters – the model number “1290 Super Duke R” is so smooth understatement. According to the manufacturer, the engine produces 180 hp at 8870/min. This KTM made a point that the two-cylinder delivers plenty of torque and indeed already gone from idling. Figures for the Beast sound indeed impressive: Already 100 Nm of torque at 2500 rpm to lie – and the curve continues to climb to breathtaking 144 Nm. Just for comparison, the BMW S 1000 RR Superbike indeed makes 193 hp, but “only” 112 Nm of torque.

Electronic assistants to curb

Gone are the days when a KTM unwilling hacked on their chain below 3000 rpm. The large V2 to behave in this respect exemplary and still rotate rapidly to 12,000 rpm. With such powerful forces must inevitably manufactures electronic means to keep the beast at bay. Otherwise, the rear wheel would spin continuously, despite the wonderfully grippy Dunlop Sport Smart as original equipment. KTM went out all the stops in terms of safety and donated the Super Duke advanced assistance systems. Gas is created by ride-by-wire system by Japanese specialists Keihin. The traction control by Bosch is multiple adjustable: Rain, Street and Sport. . To the same supplier, the latest ABS labeled 9ME and a weight of just 1.1 kg
